On March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by a major earthquake, whose aftereffects included a level 7 nuclear radiation disaster at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.

The fears and aftermath of this incident are similar to that of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Due to the dangers of exposure to radiation, residents living within a 20-kilometer radius surrounding the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and those within a 30-kilometer radius of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant were forced to evacuate. 26 years following the meltdown at Chernobyl, residents are still prohibited from entering the surrounding area.

The poignant story of "SACRIFICE~Pripyat Under Water~" tells an animated tale of a young girl left to live alone in the affected town of Pripyat, Chernobyl. Living in the now ghost town of Pripyat, Kalina forever waits for her parents, who she believes will one day return.

Through its underwater portrayal, and in combination with the strong passion of the directors' who experienced Japan's life-changing events of March 11, this film depicts the sadness and fears of those residents forced to leave their hometown.
